Adam's Journey: From Overcoming DWI to Reuniting with His Son

Kayley Ramsey

When Adam enrolled, he was diligent but feeling overwhelmed as he worked to resolve a DWI he had gotten while fulfilling the requirements to get custody of his son again.

Adam's greatest needs were a job and transportation.

A family advocate working for the 100 Families Initiative connected Adam with Goodwill Industries for employment opportunities. Adam soon found a job with health insurance through his company.

Meanwhile, Adam was participating in the Co-Occurring Program through the Guidance Center where he attended individual and group therapy every week. After 12 weeks, Adam received his certificate of completion for the Co-Occurring Program at the Guidance Center.

He also completed the requirements for Franklin County Pre-trial Conditions Opportunity which eliminated all the fines and court costs due to his driving offense. With the wrap around support of 100 Families Initiative providers, Adam successfully completed his probation through the courts and he can now legally drive his truck with an Ignition Interlock Device. After driving with this device for two years, he will then get his regular driver’s license back.

After working closely with DCFS, Adam was reunited with his son in July of 2024. A month later, he graduated from his court referral program.

A family advocate working for the 100 Families Initiative attributes Adam's success to his positive and willing attitude.

"I am so proud of Adam," she said. "he was a pleasure to work with. Everything was smooth and easy because he listened to suggestions and asked questions when he was unsure."
