As the 100 Families Coordinator for Drew County, I get to work with some amazing families, and every now and then something happens that reminds me exactly why I love what I do.
Last week, while updating assessments, I was talking with one of the moms I work with. She mentioned that her little boy had just turned three, but she wasn’t able to do much for his birthday. She told me she couldn’t afford any gifts this year and asked if I knew of any resources that might help because she felt he “deserved so much more.”
I let her know about the resource room we have here on the Arkansas Baptist Children & Family Ministries (ABCFM) campus in Monticello and told her she was welcome to come pick something out — or better yet, bring him so he could choose his own gift.
The next day, she came by with her sweet 3-year-old, and I walked them over to the resource room. As soon as he stepped in, his face lit up. It didn’t take long before he went straight for the trucks and cars. He picked out two birthday gifts, and he was so excited.
We all walked out smiling — mom felt supported, he felt celebrated, and I was reminded yet again why this ministry matters so deeply.
It was such a simple moment, but it meant so much to all of us.
It’s a blessing to be part of a community initiative like 100 Families and to serve alongside ABCFM, where even small things, like a birthday gift can bring hope, confidence, and joy to families right here in Drew County.
