Brenna Tucker of Restore Hope speaks to community leaders at the Restore Hope Training Academy about the impact of action planning with families in crisis.
In Tucker's experience helping families access resources and find stability, she has seen how breaking down requirements for things like housing, employment, or mental health can empower families to be the "leader of their journey."
"I always encourage family advocates to involve the participant in creating an action plan."
The family advocate's role then is to support, encourage, and facilitate the participant's progress. A relationship based on collaboration and communication is essential to success.
Tucker attests that completing small steps gives participants a sense of accomplishment and spurs them into further action. This creates a momentum that increases the likelihood of that client reaching stability.
Family advocate, Kambrei Charles, reinforces this claim. He cites his experience in helping people attain stable housing in Pulaski County and says the sense of completion participants get from these action plans helps them reach their overall goals more quickly.
HopeHub is a unique case management system that allows for collaboration not only between a family advocate and a participant, but also with other providers, resources, and referrals. This creates a shared accountability and clarity regarding what is required and who can help.
