The Smart Justice District Court Initiative of Garland County proudly partnered with Hot Springs Parks and Trails for a Keep Arkansas Beautiful Cleanup Event on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Volunteers worked together to collect litter and debris along the Hot Springs Creek Greenway Trail, helping preserve one of the city’s most scenic and well-loved outdoor spaces.

The event brought together participants of the Smart Justice District Court Initiative, local residents, and families, with volunteers ranging in age from adults to young children — including one enthusiastic four-year-old helper. Working side by side, participants and community members gathered trash from the creek and surrounding area, reinforcing a shared commitment to community pride, environmental stewardship, and second chances.

“This was a wonderful opportunity for our participants to give back to the community in a meaningful way,” said Sarah Stapleton, Smart Justice Coordinator for Garland County. “Service projects like this allow individuals engaged in the initiative to contribute positively to the place they live, while also building connections and accountability.”

The cleanup effort was part of the statewide Keep Arkansas Beautiful campaign, which encourages citizens and organizations to take action in maintaining the state’s natural beauty. For participants in the Smart Justice District Court Initiative, the event represented more than just a morning of service — it was a tangible reminder that small actions can lead to lasting change.

Through partnerships like this one, the Smart Justice District Court Initiative continues to fulfill its broader mission: fostering responsibility, rehabilitation, and community engagement among participants through collective impact. By combining public service with personal growth, the initiative helps participants develop skills and values that support their journey toward stability and success.

By the end of the morning, several bags of litter had been removed from the trail and creek area — a visible reminder of what can be accomplished when a community unites with a shared purpose. The Smart Justice District Court Initiative team expressed gratitude to Hot Springs Parks and Trails for their collaboration and to all who volunteered their time to help keep Arkansas beautiful.
