A Journey to Self-Reliance

In July, Marianne faced an unexpected crisis. After ending a relationship, she was left without a home or any income, having been financially dependent on her former partner. With no job, stable housing, or resources, Marianne found herself in an uphill battle to regain her footing. She was initially able to stay temporarily with her ex-partner but knew she needed to build her own foundation.

Since participating in the 100 Families Initiative, Marianne has made remarkable strides. The 100 Families Initiative moves families from crisis to stability using existing community resources. Marianne secured a position with Paris Nursing Health and Rehab, providing her with a steady income. With the help of Section 8, she was also able to find a new apartment. Sleep in Heavenly Peace supported her transition by supplying beds and bedding, creating a welcoming home environment for her family. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits now cover food needs, and ARKids insurance ensures her children’s health coverage. Marianne is currently pursuing her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license to expand her job opportunities and enhance her financial security. Each step brings her closer to lasting stability and a self-sustaining future.

A Mother’s Determination to Provide a Home

Cindy's story of resilience reflects over a year of consistent effort to secure a better life for herself and her children. When she first engaged with the 100 Families Initiative, she was homeless, managing an open protective service case, and navigating life with limited community support.

She initially found refuge in a local homeless shelter and diligently worked toward securing stable employment and safe housing. Today, Cindy has successfully moved into a permanent home with her six children to care and secured reliable employment.

Community partnerships played an essential role, helping to furnish Cindy's new residence with essentials like couches, beds, curtains, and rugs. For her family, even simple items like rugs and a beanbag became symbols of comfort and stability. Recalling her gratitude, Cindy's family advocate shares a poignant memory: “I will never forget the moment she looked at me and said, ‘We’ve never had rugs before.’”

Through hard work and the support of her community, this dedicated mother continues to build a secure environment for her children. Cindy's journey exemplifies the power of determination and the impact of a strong support network, illuminating the path from homelessness to hope and stability.
